How thick should my attic's insulation be?
I had a guy come out to my home in Denver and take a look at my attic. He said I have two inches but that I should have 15 inches. Doing that, he said, would mean I wouldn't have storage space there anymore. Do I really need 15 inches. What about reflective insulation?

- Do you have a Home Depot or other store like that in your area? Call them and ask what grade of insulation is needed for the attic. It is usually much thicker than the body of the house due to the wind and soforth. However, if you are remodeling and making the attic a room accessable to your family it might be wise if you don't want to hike up your heating bill. If not get a grade lower, it is thick but not as thick and you still might gave your storage space.
- Hello ME.I live in Canada, and i have found that attic insulation is a very important thing.Personally,in my attic ,i have 9 1/2 inches of yellow fibreglass insulation, and still experience some heat loss through my attic.I know this due to the ice damn buildup that i get in my troughs.9 1/2 inches of glass insulation calculates into an R90 insulation value, but it appears that it is not sufficient in my case. Therefore I will be bumping it up a knotch, and adding another 6 inches, which will bring me up to 15 1/2( R150) which should stop my heat loss.I think your estimate was on par with the area you live in.
