Reflective Insulation

Have you ever tried reflective foil insulation?

Looking for a thin option to add insulation to my below-grade basement. Would this be a good option, even though it is below-grade? Please tell me where you used it and how it worked out for you.

  1. I used it for a couple of years before I sheet rocked my basement and I liked it. I had put a stuff insulation in with no face(I wanted no paper that could collect moisture and mold) I've never had a problem with it and the sheetrock is nailed tight to the foil............which in theory, probably isn't correct, but it has done a wonderful job.I had caulked the floor and put a plate sealer in and also caulked that.......and had foamed all holes........so I was nice and tight. The furnace pilot light would actually warm the basement so that it was comfortable working in there for me.. Good luck.
  2. I have seen this used on building sites a lot it is usually used for bathrooms and ceilings its so if you have a leak it wont ruin the plaster board! if you had a leak above your ceiling the water would just sit there you could drill a whole and drain the water off and the ceiling would still be fine!! Its a good system! But if your talking about your walls a would use insulated plaster board!! its about 50mm thick about 2 inches though but its the highest grade!!
